Updates from the Mission School Conference
Recently, the Better Way-funded American Indian Catholic Schools Network hosted its first annual Professional Development Initiative Conference. The conference brought together approximately 50 participants and speakers to create a forum for the exchange of ideas and sharing of successes and challenges unique to the Native American mission school setting.

Participants included teachers, administrators and school leaders from each individual school, and presenters included experts in the fields of leadership practices, technology-based teaching, mentoring and coaching, reading instruction and science instruction. The conference also included several cultural speakers.

The purpose of the conference was to build on the professional development initiative currently underway at all five Better Way-funded schools by providing additional instruction, as well as facilitating knowledge sharing between teachers and administrators from schools with a common focus.

The American Indian Catholic Schools Network is currently composed of five Native American Catholic mission schools representing five different Native American tribes located in four states around the country. To learn more about the schools and the Network, please visit our domestic partners page.
