Early Childhood and the Global Goals

Early Childhood and the Global Goals
Better Way Foundation is currently developing its new global program strategy which will focus on supporting system-based approaches to advancing early childhood development. As we craft our strategy, we are heartened to see the new Global Goals—also called the Sustainable Development Goals—have set an important early childhood development target, toward which our partners’ work will contribute:

By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and preprimary education so that they are ready for primary education.

This is a target that we can all get behind. Our partners are already engaged—at Boston College, the City Connects program has demonstrated that providing preschoolers with its model of optimized student support yields children with “higher school readiness scores than students in comparison schools.” When Amani Girls Home works with the Montessori Training Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania to train pre-primary teachers to provide high-quality early childhood education, it helps ensure the growing demand for early education in Tanzania will be increasingly met by well-prepared teachers.
