Grantmaking process

As a small private family foundation, Better Way focuses on transformative, long-term changes and, in that spirit, ensures partners have appropriate time and support needed for impact.

Grounded in our mission, vision, and values and harnessing the lessons learned from previous partnerships and the expertise of Board and committee members, we define and commit to 10-year program initiatives. Landscape and research reviews help inform impact opportunity strategies, initiative goals, geographic focus, and budget.

Partnership Framework

We created a framework to ensure that our partners gain insight into how we approach partnership and to help communicate how Better Way makes funding decisions. Learn more about our Partnership Framework.

Initiatives we currently support

  • American Indian Catholic Schools Network—advance Truth & Healing, language immersion, and teacher support and development opportunities.
  • Native Community Development Financial Institutions—leverage program-related investments as a strategic approach to channel more capital into Indian Country, nurturing economic empowerment and sustainable development.
