Tumaini Letu was established in Muleba District, Tanzania in 1992 in order to assist vulnerable groups including young needy orphans and children, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS. Tumaini Letu believes that providing quality early childhood development will transform a child’s abilities and opportunities throughout their lives. In partnership with the Better Way Foundation, local government, and implementing partners, Tumaini Letu has operated a dedicated early childhood development program since 2010. The program provides holistic support to ensure healthy growth and development for the most vulnerable children. Currently, Tumaini Letu runs 20 daycare centers in Muleba District with 5,506 young children (3-6 years) of which 75% are orphans and other vulnerable children. By supporting children with proper nutritious meals, health services, kindergarten and pre-school education, and opportunities to attend primary and secondary school, the organization takes an integrated approach to improving the overall well-being of children.
Tumaini Letu also runs a savings and credit scheme for women (HANURA) who are caretakers of orphans and vulnerable children. Since its inception, Tumaini Letu has been the only organization in Kagera region that provide holistic ECD services to young children.
